The varieties that are most similar to Blue Calcite are Celestine (Celestite) and Angelite. The easiest way to tell if your supposed Calcite is Celestine is to weigh the stone. Celestine will usually be heavier on average, weighing about 1.5 times the amount of Calcite. Celestine is also a bit more translucent compared to Calcite. Angelite is another tough stone to compare to Calcite. To this problem, we turn to the sun to assist us. Compare the way the light shines through both angelite and calcite. The blue Calcite will have a more waxy and translucent shimmer while Angelite will have a more opaque finish, and may appear a little darker blue.
