Muonionalusta Meteorite Watch With Rose Gold & Skeleton Back
Muonionalusta Meteorite is a Nickel-Iron alloy meteorite discovered in northern Scandinavia in 1906. These Nickel-Iron Meteorites are one of the only meteorites that display the curious feature of the Widmanstatten pattern, which is composed of lamellae (bands) of Kamacite & Taenite, two iron-nickel minerals with very different iron-nickel ratios. This pattern is formed when the material is cooling through the “dark, red, hot” temperature range. In order to form the macroscopic lamellae, the material needs to have a cooling rate in the range of 100-6600 degrees Celsius per MILLION years. In comparison the earth’s own core is cooling at the rate of -100 degrees Celsius per BILLION years! Muonionalusta Meteorite, named after the nearby place it impacted, Muonionalusta on the Muonio River.
